Raw expressionism and gender fluid metalwork hit the Lower East Side

Transfiguration: A dual show, performance and opening presentation feat. artists Mary Rosenberger and SKNDLSS by Sustilé / Saturday, September 7,
from 6 to 10pm at 83 Rivington Street.

 

Orchard Galerie is pleased to present TRANSFIGURATION,a two-artist exhibition, debuting works by Mary Rosenbergerand SKNDLSSbySustilé.The name of the show is derived from where the two artists find themselves as they seek to redefine their process and their avenues of expression. Works shown will showcase how through their art, both challenge norms, question boundaries, rattle gender cages, and incite dialogue outside preconceived notions. 

 

Mary Rosenberger[@maryrosenberger] is known as a painter and a “perfectly imperfect” instagrammer originally from the Bay Area. Her work is informed by childlike freedom and raw expressionism and he prides herself on sharing real pieces of her life. For this show will be displaying new works along with a few sketchbooks, and she will be painting a set of garments live during the event. Video interview youtu.be/uA4XS__V4bo

 

Sustilé[@skndlss] is a multi-disciplinary artist recently moved to Brooklyn from Detroit. Her work investigates constructed notions of gender: melding art, design and fashion to create wearable and free-standing pieces. SKNDLSS is her instagram handle and performance name, from which she combines technology, sounds and art to create experiential situations. For this public debut, SKNDLSS has created a capsule collection comprised of chainmail bags and wearable metalwork which will be worn by models/performers and showcased within a multi-media installation space created collectively for the event.

TRANSFIGURATIONhighlights Mary and Sustilé’s process of crossing over—or ascending—by transforming the fragility of the human experience into complex and expressive art that may seem raw and even confrontational upon initial impression, but then it organically reveals a world of warmth and a celebration of the human spirit. The Orchard Galerie team is proud to capture and showcase the merging of their two diverging yet connecting aesthetics.  

 

TRANSFIGURATION is comprised of three parts: 

 

1. The opening will be a live presentation event which will take place on Saturday, September 7th from 6 to 10pm and will be co-hosted by Orchard Galerie's CEO Daria Mudrovaand curator Irina Chistikina,as well as the Taste Collection team. Complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres from TSISMIS NYC (@tsismisnyc) 

2. A signed limited edition signed art bookdesigned by the artists in collaboration with 
   The Missive—an immersive artifact capturing the whole experience. 

3. An exhibition/fashion pop-up,on view during NYFashion Weekfrom September 7th to the 14th. Artworks, garments and books will be available for purchase. Mary’s artwork installation will be what visitors see first as they enter the Taste Collection space, as they go further in, they’ll face a collaborative piece by both artists, SKNDLSS will have a multi-media installation showcasing her capsule collection, projections and PVC bags. 

 

Composed of an international network of art bloggers, publicists, social media influencers, taste-makers, photographers, videographers, aspiring curators and other artists; Orchard Galerie offers the resources and support structure for artists to connect with new audiences and markets.
